FAITH JEWELS GUIDE TO

PINK DIAMONDS

It is the astounding rarity, captivating palette and enigmatic beauty that make Argyle Pink Diamonds the world’s most desired gems. Sourced from the now-closed Argyle Mine in Western Australia's Kimberly region, there is no other known place in the world to find diamonds with their iconic colour spectrum and prized allure.

Argyle Pink Diamonds are separated into four primary categories:

PP – Purplish Pink
P – Pink
PR – Pink Rose
PC – Pink Champagne

These colours are then graded according to strength of a colour in a range from faint to very intense.

At first glance two diamonds can appear alike but in fact each one is very different.  There are four characteristics that will help you when buying a diamond, they are commonly known as the four C’s. Our Creative Director will help you with the decision process and explain these aspects more clearly.

Like all diamonds, the four components that will help you when selecting your pink diamond are:

COLOUR, CLARITY, CUT & CARAT

The value of a diamond is determined using these four components.

GRADING HUE

COLOUR

So unique is the colour palette of Argyle Pink Diamonds, that a proprietary colour grading system was created by the company’s team of expert graders in the early 1980’s. This internationally recognised system is used to assess the diamonds based on hue (dominant colour) and saturation (strength or intensity of hue).

The range of natural colours go from natural black all the way to the purest white.  Pink diamonds (the rarest of colours) are valued according to their depth of colour and colour tonings. Argyle grade the intensity of colour saturation within a range from 1-7 with 1 being the most intense colour.

GRADING FLAWS

CLARITY

Clarity grade reveals how clear the diamond is, with regard to internal flaws known as inclusions. Clarity is graded at 10x magnification because many flaws are small, but the most important thing is how the stone appears to your eye and how it looks in a setting. Large visible or black flaws will instantly draw the eye. The clarity scale is as follows: Flawless, Very Very Slightly Included (VVS1 and VVS2), Very Slightly Included (VS1 and VS2), Slightly Included (SI1 and SI2) and Included (I1, I2, and I3).

GRADING FACETS & BRILLIANCE

CUT

Cut grade is the quality of the final shape of the stone, which includes the overall finish, the proportions, and how well the stone’s facets refract light.

To bring out the best in a pink diamond it needs to be accurately cut and in the best proportions to achieve maximum brilliance, sparkle, and the best of its colour.

GRADING WEIGHT

CARAT

Carat weight is the physical weight of the stone measured in units known as carats. A larger, deeper-cut stone may not appear larger than a shallower cut peer for this reason.
